Mystery of the Dirty Dog

So it's been a couple years since my dogs were switched from outside-dogs to inside-dogs. And the last couple months I had been noticing within days of bathing them, the littlest one would be greasy and smell bad while her sister was still clean and smelled of shampoo. It was very confusing. She hadn't been rolling in anything outside, I always watch her for that.

Side story: Lovely incident ten years ago of taking her for a walk down a trail along a canal and gushing 'how cute!' when watching her run back and forth and dropping down to roll on the ground and repeat. Then I got closer to where she was rolling forcing her to move farther along the trail. Turns out what she was having a fabulous time rolling in was a large dead rat. I started freaking out and yelling that she was going to get a bath. She didn't understand this, but didn't roll in anything else for the rest of the walk. I've never trusted her rolling on the ground outside since then. I mean, who knows what she's rolling in that her little doggie nose thinks is awesome?

Back to the main story, just because she was not rolling outside didn't mean she wasn't rolling on her back inside. So while watching her knock all the couch cushions off the couch rolling on her back, then proceeding to jump off and go to roll on her favorite spot on the rug...

...it dawns on me. It's the rugs! She's getting greasy and dirty from rolling on the rugs where we walk and vacuum once a month to every other month. And there is nothing I can do nor want to do about this because she is too darn cute doing it! So what it comes down to is: I have a dog that gets extra baths.

Note: I will replace the picture with one of her on her favorite spot next time the opportunity presents itself.
